Brian Hewitt

Kind Art

"I hope it's just fun."  That is how Brian replied to the question of how he would describe his art.  Indeed, his work is whimsical, unique and vibrant.

Brian Hewitt is a self-taught artist who has worked full-time in his craft since 2011.  Prior to that he had a career in marketing. Before then, he had painted only a few pieces, beginning with works to decorate the walls of his first home in Southwest Harbor, Maine. While caring for his father and between jobs in 2011, Brian devoted more time to painting. What began as a temporary pursuit quickly drew the attention of local galleries and sparked a lasting passion.

Brian’s style blends traditional and experimental techniques, highlighted by his signature “arc.” His paintings appeal to both new buyers and seasoned collectors, known for their vibrant colors, dramatic contrasts, and strikingly realistic cloudscapes. “I put enormous effort into the sky,” Brian explains, “because it sets the stage for the rest of the painting.” Each piece requires six to eight weeks of careful layering, not including the research and preparation behind it.

Raised on a Vermont dairy farm, Brian has a deep connection to rural landscapes. After graduating from the University of Vermont, he lived in Washington, D.C., Manhattan, San Francisco and Maine before returning to his roots.

Today, Brian’s originals and reproductions are available in several Vermont galleries, and he has completed numerous commissioned works. He welcomes inquiries about his art, reproduction options, and custom commissions.
